Six years ago, upon
the wrenching realization of my fathers ailing health, the Ivy House was
born. Then after the incredibly disturbing hunt throughout Los Angeles for
a care facility, and the dozen attempts to place our loving father, who
mother could no longer care for, I knew the future of Los Angeles elder
care would have to change.
OUT with the old linoleum, the bad odors disinterested staff, tasteless
food, fluorescent hallways, alienated loved ones and cold institutional
environments. IN with caring live-in help, home made meals, warm and colorful
decor, bright natural-lit rooms fresh f owers and soft music. A place we
can all say "Yes" to living in during our later years. A place
I would love our father to rest in. This is the future, this is the home
I have created.
I do not know if I will create more homes like this, but I do know If I
do not, others must The Ivy House is the humane alternative to the "Out
of sight, out of Mind" care facilities that we sadly know exist. Why
must our loved ones be deposited into these cold places once grave illness
sets in. Why must honest old age become so punishing or frightening from
such foreign environments. The Ivy House is like being home It is the home
we all want, a home that provides a genuine hopeful future for the care
of the sick and elderly
